Type of patent: invention patent, utility model patent, design patent, the authorized patent must have novelty, creativity and practicality.

After applying for the authorization of a Macao invention patent (or its extension application), its validity period is 20 years from the date of application (or the date of application in China). After a utility patent is granted, its duration shall be 10 years from the filing date. After the registration and authorization of the appearance patent, its duration shall be 25 years from the date of filing.

The application language is Chinese or Portuguese. Applicants should submit their applications in Chinese or Portuguese to the Economic Services Bureau and pay the fees within 8 working days by means of a "payment slip" issued by the Economic Services Bureau.
